Sabbatical Day 24
Continued reading more of Bernanke’s essays while he was Fed chairman. Battling a head cold, which makes it more difficult to read for lengthy periods. Finished rereading Robert Wenzel’s speech he gave at the New York Fed. He courageously told his audience the Fed should shut down its operations.
Federal Spending Grew More Under Bush and Reagan than Under Obama | Mises Wire
Republican presidents are in favor of big government.
“Now that 2016 is gone and President Obama is a thing of the past, we can take a look back at just how much government spending grew during his tenure.”

Sabbatical Day 23
Had a second biopsy Thursday morning on my right leg near the knee. The dermatologist doesn’t think it is serious but she wants to make sure. We drove my wife’s Audi A3 all wheel drive to the doctor’s office and on the way back cars were skidding all over the rode and we just drove in the snow as if the road was dry.
Battling a head cold. No readings today.
Sabbatical Day 22
Finished reading Larry Kudlow’s columns, which focused on the economy and Fed policies. He is a supply-sider inflationist, who supports central banking which he believes is essential for the economy.
Met with my student research assistants at Ramapo who gave more copies of Greenspan and Bernanke’s speeches. I also received more articles for my next project about philanthropy and the welfare state.
Also met with my colleagues at the Ramapo Foundation to discuss proposals for grants.
Trump clueless about the dollar
Robert Wenzel points out what is becoming more and more obvious. Trump’s knowledge of economics is thin.
Sabbatical Day 22
Started reviewing Larry Kudlow’s National Review columns from the early 2000s. Kudlow is one of the nation’s leading advocate of supply side policies, namely, tax cuts, easy money, deregulation. etc., to stimulate the economy and keep the welfare state intact.
Continued reading Roger Stone’s The Making of the President. Almost done.

N.J. Senate votes to curb prescriptions of opioid painkillers
Another example of the welfare state mentality infecting legislators from both parties. Mandating health insurance coverage is a knee jerk reaction to a personal and family problem. Higher premiums are coming.
“If you want total security, go to prison. There you’re fed, clothed, given medical care and so on. The only thing lacking… is freedom.” Dwight D. Eisenhower
“The limits are aimed at preventing patients from becoming dependent on the drugs, and teenagers from swiping unused medication from their parents’ medicine cabinets.”

A Quiet Giant of Investing Weighs In on Trump
“Seth Klarman is not a household name, but his letter to investors, warning about the new administration, is the most sought-after read on Wall Street.”

Sabbatical Day 21
Finished rereading The Big Short by Michael Lewis. A must read to understand the corruption and stupidity of the so-called smarties on Wall Street. Where were the alleged protectors of investors in DC? Heads buried in the sand or complicit? Or ignorant?
You can see the 60 Minutes interview with Michael Lewis here.
