Donald Trump, Social Engineer

03 Mar

“At his daughter Ivanka’s urging, President Trump is showing us his liberal or progressive side by urging Congress to enact tax-code legislation relating to childcare and paid leave. Of course, this shouldn’t surprise anyone given that conservatives have, one, long supported other liberal programs, s…”

Herbert Spencer: Protectionism Is ‘Aggressionism’

03 Mar

“One of the ways Donald Trump has been an outlier in Presidential annals is the speed with which he has started living up to campaign promises. His pace is so far beyond that of recent history that one political wag suggested Americans will need to switch to dog years to keep up.”

Sabbatical Day 44

02 Mar

Read Bernanke’s speeches during the housing bubble.  He barely acknowledged that the red hot housing sector was red hot.  The Fed chairman mentioned that housing prices were rising but that there would be a soft landing.  Started reading a monograph by sociologists, Why the Federal Reserve Failed to See the Financial Criss of 2008: The Role of “Macroeconmics” as a Sense making and Cultural Frame.  A mouthful of a title.

NY Teamsters Pension Becomes First To Run Out Of Money As Expert Warns “Pension Tsunami” Is Coming

02 Mar

“This is a quiet crisis, but it’s very real. There are currently 200 other plans on track for insolvency – that’s going to affect anywhere from 1.5 to 2 million people.  The prognosis is bleak minus some new legislative help. Municipal and state plans are the next to go down – that’s a pension tsunami that’s coming.”

“Dear President Trump: If You Want To Cut Healthcare Costs & Stem The Opiate Death Spiral, Legalize Marijuana” | Zero Hedge

02 Mar

“Do the right thing and fully legalize marijuana. It’s time to move beyond addled fictions and deal with the ugly realities of a system that actively promotes “legal” opiate addiction and death while outlawing marijuana.”

Trump’s “Moderate” Defense Secretary Has Already Brought Us to the Brink of War

02 Mar

The war drums are beating louder and louder.

“Defense Secretary James Mattis may not be a bigot or a crank like so many other top Trump appointees, but he could prove to be far more lethal in the long run.”

Donald Trump, Standard Conservative

01 Mar

Conservatism is just another name for interventionism practiced by Republicans.

“In the second month of Donald Trump’s presidency, it is crystal clear that he is nothing more than a standard conservative, one with a unique personality but a standard conservative nonetheless. Consider the drug war. After decades of manifest failure, death, destructiveness, and loss of liberty amo…”

In like a lion, out like a lamb: Christie abandons property-tax reform | Mulshine

01 Mar

The solution to property tax “reform” and school funding is my plan–public schools should become nonprofit organizations funded by tuition, fees, grants, etc.,, not the state income tax and local property taxes.  In other words, separating politics from education.  Moreover, this is the only fair plan– parents who send their children to nonpublic schools or homeschool would pay for their children’s education just as they pay for their children’s other needs.  Childless individuals and couples would not be forced to pay for the needs of other families.  This is called justice and freedom.  In short, we need a “revolution” that ends coercion in education.

The funding of public colleges and universities is currently a hybrid of tax dollars, tuition, fees, grants etc.   However, tax dollars are becoming a smaller proportion of funding for these institutions.  In short, they will eventually become financially independent. It is not time to implement a strategic plan for the financial independence of all public institutions.

“Seven years ago Chris Christie came into office promising to deliver the property-tax reform that was promised half a century ago; On Tuesday he made it clear we won’t see that…”
