“Here’s a letter to the Wall Street Journal: Peter Navarro’s attempted justification of policies to reduce America’s trade deficit is a river of rubbish (“Why the White House Worries About Trade Deficits,” March 6). Our first hint of Mr. Navarro’s confusion comes when he writes that “growth in real GDP depends on only four factors: […]”

Yesterday we shopped in Wayne because the blue laws are still on the books in Bergen County. Stopped by Macy’s and bought a suit for zero dollars. After the discounts and applying Macy’s Plentii points, I got a Bernie special, a free suit. What a country.
Read some essay by Nobel Laureate in Economics Joseph Stiglitz, a devotee of Keynesian economics. Started reading Hunter Lewis’s book, Where Keynes Went Wrong. Knowing Keynes’s work helps you understand where today’s mainstream economists are coming from. For them, it’s all about aggregate demand.

Hit the gym yesterday for a fairly intensive workout. Got some material together about healthcare for an upcoming conversation with a member of the state legislator.
We attended the 35th annual Ramapo College Foundation Distinguished Citizens Dinner Saturday night that included a silent auction. Two alumni were honored as well as two other businessmen. Florence was successful in winning her bid for an iPad Mini 2. Several of my former students attended. One works at BMW another at Strkyer and another at a major CPA firm. Ramapo business students are making their mark in the business world.
The Ramapo College basketball was eliminated in the second round Saturday night losing by one point. Bummed out.
Finished reading the monograph about my the Fed did not foresee the 2008 financial crisis. To summarize the authors’ findings: the FOMC suffers from group think and the members are not very good economist. Also read some of Alan Blinder’s speeches from the 1990s; he was vice chairman of the Fed in the 90s and now is back at Princeton, where he teaches economics.
Was at Ramapo’s first round win at the Bradley Center. Saturday night they will go to the second round against Keene State. Go Roadrunners!
