On Tuesday June 5th, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach easily won the Republican primary in the Ninth Congressional District. The rabbi will now square off against eight term congressman Bill Pascrell who trounced his long-time colleague Steve Rothman. Rothman moved into the newly configured 9th CD rather than face Republican Rep. Scott Garrett whose new 5th CD now incorporates towns Rothman represents in the current 9th CD.

For superior tax relief, abolish income and property taxes
Assembly Majority Leader Louis Greenwald calls for “a 20 percent property tax relief credit to homeowners of the first $10,000 in property taxes paid for all homeowners earning up to $250,000 per year” in a March 11 op-ed (The Record). This plan would be phased in over years, according to Greenwald, “and it would be funded by asking New Jersey’s millionaires to pay their fair share.” What is a millionaire’s “fair share” in taxes? Greenwald does not define, identify his redistributionist heist.
Ron Paul’s quest for a free America
In his second attempt to win the Republican presidential nomination, Ron Paul is coming up short, based on the “official” delegate count so far. However, with several state conventions yet to decide the actual delegates from the caucus states, Ron Paul may have more delegates waiting in the wings to lift the number of delegates he will have at the Tampa convention in August and possibly be a kingmaker if no one has 1,144 delegates to win the nomination on the first ballot.
Don’t support the pizza guy. He wants more of your dough.
Herman Cain’s 999 plan is the talk of the nation. GOP voters are going gaga over Herman Cain who has rocketed to first place in some polls for the Republican presidential nomination. According to Cain, his 999 plan is the first step toward imposing the Fair Tax.
Just say no to Cain’s 999 plan, and why Ron Paul should advocate a 10-0-0 plan
Former Godfather’s Pizza CEO is now a top tier candidate according to the latest polls after he won the Florida straw poll a couple of weeks ago in a stunning upset over front-runners Rick Perry and Mitt Romney.
Tom Moran’s lame critique of champions of liberty, Ron Paul and Mike Doherty
Tom Moran, editor of the Star-Ledger, New Jersey’s largest newspaper, does his best to be a journalistic “hit man” in his piece, “NJ State Sen. Mike Doherty’s Ron Paul endorsement is revealing.” Moran, an unabashed left-winger, lists a couple of Rep, Paul’s core positions—eliminating the income tax and abolishing the Federal Reserve. In addition, Moran correctly points out that Rep. Paul “considers Medicare and Medicaid” to be unconstitutional.”
How to end U.S. wars
What is the difference between George W. Bush and Barack Obama? The former gave us wars in two countries when he promised the American people a “humble” foreign policy and no nation building when he was the GOP presidential nominee in 2000, while the latter positioned himself as the “peace” candidate in 2008—and won overwhelmingly but is escalating military intervention in other Middle Eastern nations. In short, the only major difference between Bush and Obama is that one is a white neoconservative and the other is a black neoconservative.
Tax windfalls, conspiracy theories and the end of the world
This week, we received some good news for a change about New Jersey’s economy and state budget. The number (13,400) of private sector job increased last month and income tax revenues are higher than the Christie administration forecast. However, government jobs increased by 600. Given the budget situation at both the state and local levels, why is there any new hiring occurring in government? Local, county and state governments should be downsizing to bring their budgets under control, not increasing the cost of government.
GE pays zero federal taxes…so should you!
The New York Times, in a front-page article, reported that General Electric paid no federal income taxes in 2010. Should Americans be angry that one of the world’s largest corporations paid no federal income tax while middle income and upper income Americans pay federal, state and in some cases city income taxes?
Give me, give me, give me
In two separate rallies in Trenton, teachers and then police officers, fire fighters and EMS personnel showed their support for Wisconsin teachers and for public sector unions in general. The rallies have a common theme: public sector employees apparently do not appreciate the severity of the fiscal reality facing states and municipalities around the country, and want to preserve their “rights.” Most state governments are broke and their pension plans and retiree health benefits may be underfunded by as much as $3.5 trillion.
Obama’s vision: more crony capitalism and foreign intervention; the GOP response: we support the welfare-warfare state, too
While I was driving home Tuesday evening, I listened to President Obama’s State of the Union address for a few minutes on the radio. Obama’s speech was vapid with an insightful phrase thrown in here and there to show he really is a champion of free enterprise and middle-class values. Obama sounded like a cross between Vince Lombardi and the head of the Chamber of Commerce.
Government violence: the real evil in the world
Before I sat down to write this essay I checked, as I always do every morning, www.lewrockwell.com to see what some of the best columnists on the web had to say about national and world events. Today, their analysis of the reactions of the political class and the pundits on talk radio and cable television to the shootings in Tucson did not disappoint.
Willie Sutton economics: rob the rich to balance the budget
According to a recent “60 Minutes”/Vanity Fair poll, 61% of Americans want to raise taxes on the “rich” to balance the budget. The next popular option is reducing defense spending. Cutting Medicare or Social Security is not very popular. Less than five percent of those polled want to reduce the federal government’s Ponzi schemes.
The rich are different from you and me…they are dumber
Apparently, a group of wealthy Americans thinks extending the so-called Bush tax cuts is a bad idea. Calling themselves, ready, “Patriotic Millionaires for Fiscal Strength,” they have written an open letter to the President pleading for tax rates to increase on January 1 for individuals earning more than one million dollars per year.
This is the government we have chosen
One of the most memorable lines in American cinema occurred on a balcony in a Havana hotel on the eve of the Cuban Revolution. On the balcony Hyman Roth, an elderly gangster, is speaking to Michael Corleone about making an “investment” in Cuba, as rebel forces are challenging the regime of Dictator Fulgencio Batista, days before Fidel Castro takes over Havana on January 1, 1959. At this meeting of several Mafia chieftains, Roth says to Michael, “This is the business (crime) we have chosen.”
